Opinionated Dining GuideTrès chic
| Inns
| Our Favorite | Popular Be sure to enjoy East Hampton's festive evening crowd, with lots of slurping of ice cream cones and people-watching on Main Street. And get your tickets to the night's movies early in the afternoon. Très chicThe three most trendy restaurants in the village of East Hampton, noted for their celebrity clientele and good food, are: Nick & Toni's (631) 324-3550, The Palm (631) 324-0411, and Della Femina (631) 329-6666. InnsThere are two charming restaurants at the local inns: The James Lane Cafe (631) 324-7100 and The Maidstone Arms (631) 324-5006. Atmosphere is very East Hampton. All the above, however, is pricey--about $50 per person, if you order judiciously. Our FavoriteThen there is our favorite spot to eat: Turtle Crossing (631) 324-7166. This casual family place just down the road from us is Southwestern, yes, a BBQ menu. Incredible ribs, onion rings, corn bread, hamburgers. And where did President Clinton eat when he came to the Hamptons? You bet! Here, of course. Be prepared for a long wait because this is one of the hottest spots in town. No reservations. PopularYou'll find the locals eating at Santa Fe Junction (631) 324-8700, another Southwestern menu with some seafood, and always tasty. Our tax assessor is a hostess there. Estia in Amagansett (631) 267-6320 is an affordable upscale restaurant serving creative pasta dishes in what was formerly a luncheonette. The Farmhouse lately has been the talk of the town (631) 324-8585 for stylish dining. Return to top | Home SeafoodHowever, everyone who comes to the Hamptons asks where to get a good seafood meal. Other than going to Gosman's Dock Restaurant (631) 668-5330 in Montauk, which has indoor and outdoor seafood dining (with the seagulls finishing up your dinner), there isn't one outstanding place in East Hampton. The Lobster Roll (631) 267-3740 on the Montauk Highway (the sign says "Lunch") is a big family seafood barn. For more elegant dining, there is East Hampton Point (631) 329-2800, Peconic Coast (631) 324-6772, and a more casual Bostwick's (631) 324-1111 on the bay. Of course theres the famous Gurney's Inn (631) 668-2660 in Montauk, but we havent dined there yet. VegetarianFor gourmet vegetarian cooking, Babette's rules (631) 329-5377. Night LifeBobby Van's in Bridgehampton is a most happening place with a congenial bar crowd and good steaks. There's a seafood hut just after Amagansett on the Montauk Highway that attracts zillions of singles in the evening. The very young crowd likes Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett (631) 267-3117 for live music. A favorite spot is The American Hotel (631) 725-3535, elegant and sedate in a Victorian setting, in Sag Harbor, where they have piano on weekends.
