Beaches | Tennis | Golf | Boats | Bikes | Horses | Whales| Shopping | What to Wear | Weather | Events The East Hampton Chamber of Commerce (631) 324-0362 has full information on all activities, but we'll give you a quick rundown. Beaches: all beaches require passes for parking cars. We give our guests passes to the Town beaches, which includes Atlantic Avenue Beach and the bay beaches. Return to top Tennis: There are four tennis clubs in the area, but the Town of East Hampton has courts that you can sign for early Saturday morning at the Town Clerkıs Office (631) 324-4142 on Pantigo Road, within walking distance from 1848 House. You can try East Hampton Indoor Tennis Club (631) 537-8012, which also has great outdoor courts. Return to top Public Golf Courses: Montauk Downs State Park (631) 668-5000; Poxabogue Golf Course in Bridgehampton (631) 537-0025; Sag Harbor Golf Club (631) 725-2503; Indian Island in Riverhead (631) 727-7776. Return to top Boats for Rent: Marlin Deep Sea Fishing, Inc. (631) 2818; Montauk "Lazybones" (631) 668-5671; Uihlein's Marina and Boat Rental (631) 668-3799. "The American Beauty" (631) 725-0397 will take you for cruises in Sag Harbor. Return to top Bike rental: We have bikes that you may take for the day for $10. There is also Bermuda Bikes (631) 324-6688 in East Hampton for the latest models. Return to top Horses: Deep Hollow Ranch (631) 668-2744 and Ritas Stables (631) 688-5453 Return to top Whale Watching: Everyone loves this activity, and sometimes you see a whale. The Viking Fleet (631) 668-5700 Return to top Shopping: A favorite Hamptons pastime. We have The Gap, Polo Country Store, and Eileen Fisher--but the most inspiring shop in town is Daryl Westfalls on Main Street (631) 329-1664. Daryl has great taste in accessories, I mean the best, from beaded handbags to velvet scarves to elegant and clever costume jewelry--not cheap but affordable. The most popular store in the Hamptons: The Southampton Thrift Shop on Main Street in Southampton (proceeds go to the local hospital) is often filled with designer clothing. Return to top What to Wear: In the summer season, white cotton pants and linen blazers for her; khakis, Polo shirts, sport jackets for him, clean and pressed jeans for all; no ties, suits, fancy cocktail dresses (unless youre attending a wedding). For dining casual but no shorts. In the evening New Yorkers tend to wear basic black. The nights are cool and require warmish jackets; good shoes suffer from damp, dewy grass. Return to top Weather: The weather is rarely overly hot in the summer. Maybe two weekends we're hit with a heat wave. Usually daytime is in the 80 degree range and night is in the 60s. Spring is cool, but May blooms are beautiful to see. Fall remains warm into October. Winter is damp, windy, and cold, but Christmas in the Hamptons is truly special. Main Street is transformed into a holiday wonderland. And when it rains, go visit the lighthouse in Montauk or sit by our fire and read. Return to top Events:The Perlman Music Program July 2 - August 13; Polo Matches in Bridgehampton July 22 - August 26 (the rich and famous); Artists and Writers Softball Game (most highbrow) August 19; Hampton Classic Horse Show (serious horse people) August 27 - September 3; Hamptons International Film Festival mid-October (the biggest celeb appearance and our favorite event).
